-[Brand Yourself Project]-

Step 1: Set up an account on BrandYourself.com

Type in your name when you are choosing the identity that you are trying manipulated and search for results on.

Step 3: Take a screenshot of the first initial score of your branding

For some reason is was unable to give me a score because it was unknown, but it had all of my content.

Step 3: Go through the process of manipulating the results when searching your name

You can decide to whether or not a website associated with your name is positive, negative, or not you at all. This allows you to bury and boost your sites according to the ranking that it shows on google.

Step 4: Evaluation

For me I think this was the most interesting and relatable project to me. We all at one point have searched our name, and I remember before this class I was somewhat displeased with what was initially showing up when you would type in my name. The links that were popping up were not necessarily anything worrisome, however, I would have rather had things dominate the higher rankings. I was always curious about how to get certain thing off or at least in a sense buried. So it was exciting to see something relatable and relevant could be taught later in my class.

This concept really makes you think about what you decide to engage yourself in, because I know that if at the time I knew what the consequences were to get involved with those websites I would not have. Those pictures and links that identify with me will more or less be with me forever, even after I deleted my accounts, I would have to go through extensive steps to go through with it. This was important to me, because people that don’t know you have nothing to go off of but what can be found, and you want that to be as pristine as possible. Professionalism is motivate when doing this.

-[Nameplate Project]-

Step 1: Make an account with a server that provides nameplate options

I chose to use, “About.me” to create my nameplate.

My personal About.me

Step 2: Fill out the necessary information to complete the template

For instance, I talked about my major, my personality traits, what I plan to do and become in the future, what I desire to be, as well as contact information to get a hold of me.

Step 3: Save the template to view the final nameplate

Step 4: Evaluate

Although this project may have seemed mundane and simple, this serves a much greater purpose than what it meets the eye. For a lack of a better name, I was able to create a electronic business card. This allows much more information to be shown, and it is flexible with specifically what you want, as well as it allows you to be updated with your connections while networks. This starts the ideal of branding yourself, which we currently have learned in our class, because this in turn sets the tone of your personal and business life.

This really shed light on the idea of the importance of first impressions, and how they can either be the beginning or the end. This shows versatility, as well as awareness that you as the brand is informed of the alternative ways to reach your peers. Nameplates give you the ability to be ahead of the game and be prepared when business cards may not be able to be used accessed, but could impact the beginning of a new connection.

-[Creative Web Pages for Advertising Majors]-

Step 1: Come up with keywords that you believe would be used to reach your personal blog

I decided to use, “Blog post, Creative, Advertising Major, Mass Media, and Education”

Step 2: Use the terms you chose, and insert them into Google Ads Keyword Tool to get 5 additional terms or words that have the highest global number of searches in that category, and list them.

My 5 keywords:

  1. Blog post
  2. Creative
  3. Advertising Major
  4. Mass Media
  5. Education

Google’s recommended additional 5 keywords:

  1. Creative
  2. Major Advertising
  3. Degree Advertising
  4. Relations Advertising
  5. College Advertising

Step 3: Record the number of global monthly searches for each term
  1. 44, 570
  2. 560
  3. 1,800
  4. 2,070
  5. 500
  6. 1,840
Step 4: Write a sentence for each alternate keyword that Google suggested that you could incorporate in your personal blog
  1. This is a creative based blog that allows for various mediums, channels, and vehicles that can expand your knowledge on several subjects.
  2. A Major Advertising drives blog that demonstrates my knowledge on several subjects regarding the necessary skills to succeed.
  3. To expand on my Degree in Advertising I created a blog to illustrate the ideals of the elements of the creative and logical side of this degree.
  4. As well as being apart of the Relations Advertising, I developed this blog to allow the growth of expanding this website to showcase my skills in this department.
  5. An overall generalization of the College Advertising skills that are acquired one will experience when diving into a degree in Advertising.
Step 5: Evaluation

This project opened my eyes to the logistics of google, and how articulate the analytics are of Google. The ability to know how to manipulate searches to draw in users is very helpful when trying to expand and showcase the necessary skills to succeed in this major. We take the words we use for granted when using any type of search engine, but this workshop helped me understand the real opportunities and consequences you can have from a single word. While I used Google daily, I was unaware of the reasoning for the way websites were showed.

What I found the most surprising was that the words I thought would have high ratings were categorized as either, “low,” or “medium” which I thought was interesting. This helped me understand the importance of the power of relevance within search engines. I believe that this will forever have an impact on me, because when I start to brand myself I will have access to have the best potential to develop myself and grow in this industry.

-[Infographic Project]-

Step 1: Go to a infographic creator.

I decided to use the platform, “Piktochart

Step 2: Chose a topic/information to fill in the template.

I choose to inform my audience about the multiple filters that are provided on Snapchat to alter pictures exactly the way you want.

Step 3: Create the infographic in regards to your topic

VanCoevering, K. L. (Artist). (2016). How to Use Snapchat Filters. [Image of painting]. Allendale, Michigan ; Piktochart. Retrieved from http://piktochart.com

Step 4: Evaluation

This platform allows for a grander scheme of creativity, each element in a Piktochart is able to be manipulated individually to how you want it exactly. I think that this is a very innovative tool, especially for people that are not necessarily all that artistically gifted, this allows you to be creative without  having to really create yourself by just manipulating certain elements of a template. This becomes prevalent to how many believe that they do not excel in this area.

This also is very relevant to the type of advertising, I see this on a daily basis as I walk around Grand Valley State University. When a club is trying to promote their club, someone is trying to signal awareness of a topic, and informing us about it through this medium. Until I was first introduced to infographics, I realized that this was a very prominent medium to convey several messages, and I thought that was an eye opener that shocked me the most while doing this project.
